I am a behavioral economist specializing in development topics. My research agenda focuses on three main areas: (i) public service motivation and effort, (ii) bias measurement and impact of de-biasing techniques with elite samples, and (iii) gender-based discrimination. In addition to this, I have made contributions to experimental methods, often using innovative (lab-based) measurement techniques. As a scholar-practitioner, my work has generated both academic impact and policy impact. I routinely consult for international development agencies, such as the World Bank, the United Nations (UNDP), and GIZ. I am also the author of two popular science books with Hodder & Stoughton press, and one of the lead authors of the influential World Development Report (which lead to the mainstreaming of behavioral science in development agencies).
